Jessica Ghawi aspired to a long career in sports journalism before her life was tragically cut down by movie theater gunman.

As Ghawi sat in Colorado's Century Aurora 16 Movie Theater, there to see a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises," she read a Spector tweet intimating he would be waiting at least one more day to see the highly anticipated Batman flick.
"You aren't seeing it tonight?!" she typed.
It was a combination of wit and hockey knowledge and fervor that connected Ghawi and Spector on Twitter some time ago, where they eventually became friends and even shared laughs as recently as last Friday in Toronto when Spector and his wife made a weekend out of covering an NHL Players' Association charity event.
"We went to a bar in Toronto and had some beers, and some good times," Spector said of meeting up with Ghawi, who professionally went by the name Jessica Redfield. "I'm glad we did, because you have that memory."

In a stunning twist, Ghawi actually had blogged in June about surviving a fatal shooting at Toronto's Eaton Centre, where a gunman opened fire on June 2 in the mall's busy food court and killed two while injuring six.
"Had I not gone outside, I would've been in the midst of gunfire," Ghawi wrote.
Sadly, that fortuitous premonition wasn't enough to keep a glowing young woman out of harm's way. Spector, her friend, grasped to describe one of the 12 people the world lost Friday morning in this senseless tragedy.

"She was the same person in the world that she was on Twitter, which was a smart, sharp and funny young woman," he said. "I thought she had a real bright future because she really had a passion for both hockey and journalism. She's the kind of person that finds a way to make it work and be successful. She was always entertaining and always funny just really a sharp person."
